Kaleidoscope Eyes

One of the coolest iPad apps I have come across. The Annamika <http://annamika.com/press.html>  kaleidoscope provides optic stimulation for inspiration or a cure to boredom.  You can manipulate into a series of swirls and shifts by dragging a finger across the iPad. Pinching the screen zooms into the spiral, while tapping the image twice stops and starts the animation, and a double-tap in the center blacks out the corners for a classic kaleidoscope view.

Flashback to the kaleidoscope as a kid. Above is a stack of our bambu branded bowls....trippy...

Sustainability - the better definition

The word Sustainable and Sustainability get used, and misused with a lot more frequency these days. And we’ve heard countless definitions. Most of them poor.

We have sometimes described Sustainable = Enduring. And while that’s true, it is not very complete and requires too much filling in the blanks.

This is the best, most accurate definition we have seen. This is what we are working towards.

Sustainability entails the responsible caretaking and creative cultivation of resources — social, cultural, financial, and natural —
to generate stakeholder value while contributing to the well-being of current and future generations of all beings.
-Alexander Laszlo, – founder of Syntony Quest, as quoted by Chuck Piazza, a professor at Saybrook University.

What do you think?

We have been looking for the right image to reflect this thought. V difficult to represent in a single shot. This isn’t it. Any ideas?

Twist of Artistry

I’ve long admired the way Jim Riswold looks at the world. A self-described “fake artist,” Riswold first worked as creative director at the Wieden+Kennedy in Portland.
He is a legend. He had his hand in some of the agency’s most iconic and best work for Nike. In 2000, however, he was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia,
and left advertising to devote his life to art.

His twisted, fun and child-like lens on society features objects and characters out of step. A bit mischievous, thought-provoking and entertaining works of art.
Read his Esquire article here. (http://adjix.com/4fwm) - highly recommended. His personality comes shining through.

Love his Mao Home & Garden series.

His website is wonderful beyond words...http://www.jimriswold.com.  Check out Cowboys & Indians too. Don’t forget to turn on the Riswold Amalgamated jingle. Brilliance.
